Environmental and Social Safeguards Management Team
The POs must follow the MEAP Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) manual in relation to the proper handling of used batteries and solar components. Considering the scope of the MEAP ESMF, the Fund Manager will set up an Environmental and Social Safeguards Management Team (ESSMT). The ESSMT will be headed by the Environmental and Social Safeguards Expert reporting to the Team Leader. This would facilitate ESSMTs tasks more effectively and seamlessly

The ESSMT will have the following responsibilities:
- Advise project proponent on screening the environmental issues of the PO selection
- Categorization of project
- Review of the monitoring reports
- Analyze information of expired batteries collected from POs as per the template in Annexure 5.
- Conduct screening on environmental and social issues as per the template in Annexure
- Review e-waste management policies for participating organizations and promote solutions that enhance proper handling and disposal of e-waste
- Incentivize participating organizations in collection of e-waste from end users and maintaining proper records for collected e-waste.
